Current Roles
Dr. Grant Tinsley is an Associate Professor at Texas Tech University and the Owner of Tinsley Consulting LLC. At Texas Tech University, Dr. Tinsley performs academic research, mentors student researchers, and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses. He leads a team of researchers as the Director of the Energy Balance & Body Composition Laboratory. The major interests of his laboratory are the critical evaluation of body composition assessment techniques, the influence of intermittent fasting on health and physical performance, and sports nutrition strategies to improve performance and body composition. Through Tinsley Consulting LLC, Dr. Tinsley provides consulting services in the areas of dietary supplement formulation, scientific review, data analysis, and fitness.
Background
Tinsley was homeschooled throughout his childhood and began taking college courses at age 15. He attended Oklahoma State University on a full-ride National Merit Scholarship and graduated summa cum laude with dual degrees in Physiology and Nutritional Sciences. He then completed a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University and a Ph.D. in Kinesiology and Exercise Nutrition at Baylor University. He began a tenure-track Assistant Professor position at Texas Tech University at age 25 and was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor, his current position, at age 30.
In addition to his academic degrees, Dr. Tinsley completed a Graduate Certificate in Medical Statistics from Stanford University. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with distinction (CSCS,*D) and a Certified Sports Nutritionist (CISSN).
Academic Achievements
At Texas Tech University, Dr. Tinsley has directed 11 externally funded research studies, along with 7 additional contracts for research services. These research activities, along with external collaborations, have resulted in over 150 published peer-reviewed articles and abstracts. His work has been published in top research journals, such as The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Nutrition Reviews, and Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise.
Tinsley received the 2018 Best Paper Award from the European Journal of Sport Science for his investigation of the effects of intermittent fasting on adaptations to resistance training. He also received the 2019 New Faculty Award from the Texas Tech Alumni Association and the 2021 Excellence in Research Award from the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas Tech University. He was the 2021 recipient of the Nutritional Research Achievement Award from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Personal
Tinsley lives in Lubbock, Texas. He enjoys spending time with his family, lifting weights, reading, playing games, and being active in his local church community.
